HOW IT BEGAN
Born from a desire to meet people where they are.
Having personally experienced many of the childhood and adult traumas that Healthy H.E.A.R.T.S. seeks to eradicate, our Founder felt a deep calling to create meaningful change for women and families facing crisis.
In 2002, as a 22-year-old single mother transitioning out of the military, LaChica began providing food, emergency assistance, and shelter to women and families in need, while navigating challenges of her own. What began as small acts of compassion evolved into a mission centered on dignity, support, and hope.
In August, 2024, that mission became Healthy H.E.A.R.T.S., a faith-based nonprofit organization dedicated to uplifting young women aging out of the foster care system, supporting veteran women transitioning to civilian life, and providing emergency assistance to single parents.
Today, LaChica leads Healthy H.E.A.R.T.S. in delivering life-skills training, personal development, emotional support, and pathways to independent living. Guided by lived experience and faith, she remains committed to ensuring that no woman or family has to face hardship alone.
Dear Friend, I hope all is well with you and that you are as healthy in body as you are strong in spirit.

WHY THIS WORK MATTERS
Everyone deserves safety, dignity, and a real path forward — no matter where they’re starting.
Housing insecurity, untreated trauma, and lack of support doesn’t just affect individuals. They strain healthcare systems, schools, workplaces, and entire communities. When short-term solutions replace long-term investment, cycles of homelessness, violence, and economic hardship persist — costing society far more in the long run.
Healthy H.E.A.R.T.S. addresses the root causes, not just the symptoms. We intervene at the point where it matters most-before instability becomes permanent.
By supporting women aging out of foster care, veterans transitioning to civilian life, and single parents facing systemic barriers, we help reduce long-term dependence on emergency services and create pathways to self-sufficiency.
This work matters because prevention is more powerful — and more humane — than reaction.
When we invest early, we reduce future crises. When we support women, we strengthen families. When families are stable, communities are safer, healthier, and more resilient.
This is how lasting change is built.
