What to Expect When Seeking Emergency Shelter
Many emergency shelters in the DFW area operate on a walk-up, first-come basis and may reach capacity quickly. Availability can change daily and placement is not guaranteed, even after calling ahead.
Families are encouraged to:
Arrive early in the day whenever possible
Be prepared for wait times or referrals to alternate locations
Bring identification and essential documents if available
Understand that stays may be short-term or overnight only, depending on capacity
If a shelter is full, staff may provide guidance on other local options. Healthy H.E.A.R.T.S. shares these resources to support immediate safety and stability while applications are under review and program services continue to develop.
